Consumer sentiment is UP and Retail sales DOUBLE expectation!

WOW!

Consumer sentiment is UP meaning people are more comfortable with the state of the economy...  What?  Where does this come from? This report is put out on the 2nd Friday of each month and comes from a survey of about 500 consumers regarding their "sentiment" as it pertains to their comfort with the economy.  The more comfortable people are, the more likely they are to spend money.  This report can be an indicator of where retail sales are going to be in the future.  As stated in the article linked below: consumer sentiment accounts for about 70% of our economy.

Retail sales also came in about DOUBLE what the expectation was.  This is great news as it suggests people may be willing to make a few extra purchases for the holiday. These and other factors are contributing to the rise of the value of the dollar according to some as they contribute to the clues that suggest the economy is turning for the better.  Remember what Warren Buffet is famous for saying: if you wait for the Robins, spring is over.

FNMA 4.5% lost just 9bps today...we are still in good shape for interest rates.  30 year fixed rates are still in the just under and just over 5% range.  Home purchase anyone?

DoW came in at 10,471 which was up 66 points for the day.

Dang...131 banks failed in 2009 as of today.  It will be interesting to see the effect if may have on the FDIC in the long run.
