Yo...Get your gifts wrapped...before rates go up again.

Hey there!  We are hosting the Big Brothers and Sisters Gift Wrapping Booth at the Gallatin Valley Mall today from 10:30-8pm.

Come get your gifts wrapped and contribute to an organization that changes lives forever.  I have been serving on the Board of Gallatin Valley Big Brothers and Sisters with a few of you including Jennifer Erickson, Heidi Parkes, Elaine Hense and others.  It has been really eye opening to see what it actually costs for insurance, the branch office, supporting the big/little matches etc.  We rely on donations at our special events like this one to keep serving the children of this valley.

Come check it out.  We are right by Macy's.

FNMA 4.5% is DIVING right now and is down about 38 basis points on the day.  We are approaching a floor of support at the 200 day moving average for the bond right now.  We are about 100 basis points lower than Friday's intra-day High.

Dow is UP 104 points right now to 10,433.

The healthcare bill is heading to a vote in the Senate this week.  Is it just me or is this thing seeming to get RAMMED through?  (Vote is scheduled for CHRISTMAS eve on a document that is WELL over 1,000 pages long...WOW.  I don't think it takes a conspiracy theorist to see something this obvious.)

Interestingly, 80% of people polled recently do not agree that it will do anything to create any better healthcare.  It was interesting to see the "spin" on this one go from "better healthcare system" to "insurance for all!"

The healthcare industry would face a 2 billion dollar tax to help pay for the bill which increases to 10 billion a year over time with this lates proposal.  This thing is over a thousand pages long and riddled with holes and honey pots.  There is really too much to put out there in one entry as far as what I feel is "right" or "wrong" about it.  Yikes.

Why do we care?  When it becomes more expensive to keep a business open and things are tough...the business closes.  When healthcare is more expensive due to fees and taxes levied by the government: it passes to us.

There are several hospitals struggling NOW to pay the bills and just closing down. (Think: border hospitals who are forced to provide treatment to ANYONE who enters the emergency room.)  More fees to the "big corporations" means more fees at the street for us average schmoes.  As we saw this year: corporations WILL find a way to PRESERVE their bonuses.

The bummer: this can really hurt the economy as a whole but also hits us right where it hurts in the wallet.  When our wallets are hurting: we don't spend money.

Cheers,

Chad
