Interesting day in the market put Oil to a low at $64.61/Barrel. Hopefully we will see more relief at the pump soon. Last time oil futures were this cheap: gas was much cheaper. Bear in mind that the price above is for delivery at a future time. Refineries manage the supply of the gasoline and supply vs demand for the gasoline dictates the price.
FNMA 4.5% bond is UP 44 basis points today ending at $102.38.
471,000 initial jobless claims were filed last week vs. expectations of 440,000.
Continuing unemployment claims fell by about 40,000 from the week before to 4.62 million.
Another 5.1 million people are on the "Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program." Which is an extended benefit program.
That means that in a nation of 300 million people or so...one in 65 is continuing to draw unemployment, and has been for less than the maximum benefit time and one in 59 people has been drawing unemployment longer than the maximum benefit allows.
Meanwhile the unemployment rate is at about 10% so about one in ten people is actually "unemployed".
