Check this out!
I heard a great story this morning that I will attempt to paraphrase and add my embellishments here.
A famous musician came to a major city in the U.S. to perform a very exclusive concert. Tickets were a few hundred dollars each. The violin he played was worth several hundred thousand dollars.
He came to the stage and delivered a stellar performance. All in attendance were very impressed and felt that the money they spent to take part in the experience he provided them was a sound investment in their emotional and personal well being. WOW.
The next day, that same musician took his expensive violin to the subway station near his hotel. He set out the violin case for donations as "street" musicians do and flawlessly played the same pieces of music from the night before to the masses who were wandering aimlessly through the subway station. He played with the same passion and beautiful style that had made him famous.
The same two hour performance that was worth thousands of dollars of personal income and public praise along with the adoration of all in attendance was worth about 18 dollars of income on the subway platform.
Only 2 of the thousands wandering through even stopped to appreciate the beautiful tones coming from his talent on the violin.
The difference is "forum"...or "schema". His value was much more readily appreciated by those who paid for the experience with him. He was in front of people LOOKING for what he had to offer on the night of his concert. He provided something for them that they could not provide for themselves. The were "EXPECTING" the best from him.
When he put himself in the role of the street musician: the people wondering the platform were not looking to have a spiritual experience and connection to his music. His music was more of a background to the thoughts and worries of their day. The forum for him to provide the most value to the most people was not there.
Do we do this in our business? Try to provide value to the masses without first filtering out all the people not interested in what we have to offer? Are there people who appreciate us for the talent that we are in some forums and not in others?
What are you doing to get your talents in front of those who are already LOOKING for it? What does your "concert" look like and to what audience would you like to perform?
These are things to consider when thinking about SEO or Branding or business delivery process...
Cheers,
