Garbage...is stinky.

As we were preparing to leave on our Memorial Day trip last Friday my wife and I thought to put the garbage can out to the curb since there was a slight possibility we were not going to get back in time to put it out on Tuesday morning.

By the time we were ready to leave, it was pouring rain and since the lid wasn't all the way closed on the big blue can: I knew the garbage could be a sloppy mess by Tuesday morning.

I made a snap decision: If we was not able to come back in time Tuesday, I would just have my neighbor run the trash around for me.  In the meantime, I would put the garbage in my garage for the weekend.

We left.  It rained all weekend, so was cold.  My garage is heated.

WOW.  When we came home I stopped at the street to grab our mail and left the window down as we opened up the garage door to pull in.  The smell reached into my car and shocked my nostrils awake.

We opened up all the garage doors immediately, took the garbage can to the curb and cleaned out our travelling car as rapidly as possible to avoid exposure to the stinky green fumes that were swirling throughout the cozy, heated space in our garage.

The Lesson didn't hit me at first, but I think I have got it now.

How often do we do something like this without even thinking about it?  Are we taking garbage into our homes, our businesses or even our MINDS and then shutting the door on it to let it marinate and fester?  Are there toxic people in your business or life that you need to protect yourself emotionally, financially or physically from?

Now is the time for action.

Once you recognize it: don't UN-recognize it.

Just as the Garbage: the stink will eventually permeate all areas of your existence.

The interesting thing about this type of exposure: it took a full 24 hours of airing out the garage to get that smell out.  It is not easy to remove toxic people or ideas and even when we choose to do that: it takes time for the "smell" to subside.  The more "airing out" we do, the faster the recovery time.

Just something to share.

Cheers!
