In this scene, the main character is using humility and confronting his "fear" of small spaces (elevator) to overcome Ego.  This movie presents Ego as a WHOLE vs. something invented by and carried by each person individually.  Generally we think: "My Ego" or "Your Ego" but really it is JUST "EGO"  It is something that lives and Rules here on earth.  It sees all and knows all.  I feel it has a primitive purpose that has been lost by many carrying the "parasite" of Ego and doing anything to protect it.  It becomes a parasite when it is carried, protected and preserved by each of us and it takes on a "life" of its own through this.  When we push it back out into the "Ego sphere" as my brother Aaron coined on our Timpanogos Mountain Hike this summer: it is able to re-assimilate and the original purpose of the Ego Sphere can be realized by each of us.
